Response to Water Resources and Biodiversity

The COMSYS Group preserves our rich ecosystems and contributes to the realization of a sustainable society in harmony with nature. By focusing on coexistence with nature and striving to minimize environmental impact, we aim to preserve our rich natural environment for the next generation of people.

Biodiversity assessment

Relationship between business activities and nature

The COMSYS Group engages in a wide variety of infrastructure construction work such as telecommunication equipment construction in its Carrier-Related Business, IT Solutions Business, and Social System-Related Business, including the improvement of urban environments and solar power generation. These business activities are closely related to nature in ways such as the change of land use, the use of water resources, and their impact on ecosystems during the construction of infrastructure that supports social and economic activity. We manage the impact of these activities appropriately and minimize their impact on ecosystems to preserve biodiversity.

Analysis of dependency and impact on nature

Our broad range of business activities depend on ecosystem services and they affect the natural environment at the same time. The table below shows the results of our ENCORE analysis of our business activities' dependence on ecosystem services and their impact on nature.

Dependence and impact on biodiversity (ENCORE analysis)
Category Factor Details Dependency/impact
Dependency analysis Water resources Water resources are used in construction. Medium to high
Stability of land Dependence on the stability of ground when installing communication and other equipment High
Climate regulation Dependence on the climate during outdoor work (e.g., temperature and rainfall) Medium
Impact analysis Changes in land use The installation of solar power generation equipment or base stations impacts the habitats of plants, animals, etc. Medium
Use of water resources Consumption of water resources during construction Medium
Noise, light and visual pollution Construction work or communications operations can involve noise and light pollution and impact the landscape Medium to high

Reponses to risks and opportunities

Major risks include reputational risks when biodiversity-related laws and regulations are strengthened or when an organization is regarded as lacking adequate consideration for the environment. On the other hand, there are also opportunities, such as the expansion of the Renewable Energy Business, the ability of differentiate the Company from others by constructing eco-friendly communications infrastructure and the improvement of the brand value by implementing businesses in consideration of biodiversity. By appropriately managing risks and opportunities such as these, we are developing a sustainable business model.

Major Initiatives

Conducting preliminary environmental research

We conduct detailed on-site research before we perform construction to learn about the ecosystems of animals and plants inhabiting the surrounding areas. Based on this research, we revise design and operational plans as necessary and act to minimize the impact on the environment. This initiative makes it possible for us to understand the risks of our business activities impacting the natural environment before we begin and to act appropriately.

Environmental impact assessment and monitoring

We will carry out initiatives to strengthen our biodiversity assessment processes and understand the impact of our business activities on the natural environment more accurately.
More specifically, environmental impact assessments are conducted in the areas around the facilities where we operate. We do this to assess the impact on local areas which are important for biodiversity and act appropriately. We also continuously monitor the impact of our business activities and maintain a system for collecting data regarding biodiversity. In addition, we will incorporate the latest knowledge and use the best solutions for the protection of biodiversity.

Cleaning and environment beautification

We regularly engage in cleaning activities in and around local rivers and parks to contribute to the beautification of the natural environment and to local communities. In this way, we are working with local people to enhance our environmental awareness while endeavoring to maintain the health of local ecosystems.
